About Me

"You'll feel so homesick that you'll want to die, and there's nothing you can do about it apart from endure it. But you will, and it won't kill you. And one day, the sun will come out you might not even notice straight away - it'll be that faint. And then you'll catch yourself thinking about something or someone who has no connection with the past. Someone who's only yours. And you'll realize that this is where your life is."

Golden [REVIEW]

Title: Golden
Author: Cameron Dokey
Pages: 256
Series: Once Upon a Time is Timeless
Retelling: Repunzel

Summing it up: Golden is about a girl, Repunzel, who lives with a witch, Melisande. Melisande saved Repunzel from her mother when she was just a baby and raised her as her own. The thing is Melisande already has a daughter. Her name is Rue and she is stuck in a tower. How does Repunzel play into this? She has to save Rue. Along the way she makes friends with a tinker, Mr Jones, and an orphan Harry (or ‘The Tinker’s Boy’).

Reason I Decided to Read it: Three words: Fairy tale based.
The Good: I love the role Mr Jones (the tinker, not the cat) has to play in the story. I also love Harry. The characters are strong and well thought out, but I wish the story was longer so we could really get a feel for them.
The Bad: It was short. Yes, I know it IS a short story, but they could have added much more. The writing could have used a bit more umph, but the way Mrs Dokey wrote it, it is just like a teenage girl’s mind.

The Over-All: If you love fairy tales, check this one out.

Other: No violence, no cursing and only a few kisses. Nothing major.

Rated: I rate it 3/5 pages.
